I loved this book, and was immediately drawn to Sana, the main character. Sana has a lot on her mind, including a new life in California, a crush on a girl she met right before school started, and a possible affair her father is involved in. She's trying to figure things out, but along the way she messes up and makes mistakes. Sana is funny, honest, and she makes this novel one you will not want to put down.

I gifted this book to my mom for Christmas, and the second she finished it, she told me I had to read it too. I'm so glad I did. This book is based on the true story of Lale Sokolov, a prisoner of Auschwitz who gets the job of tattooing other prisoners as they arrive. Whether you're a teen or an adult, the story of Lale's perseverance and love through the darkest time in history is beautiful and must be read.

I was lucky enough to be able to hear Laurie Halse Anderson speak about this book herself, and afterwards, I knew I had to get my hands on it. The messages in this book are extremely important, such as consent, finding your voice, and asking for help. Watching Melinda, the main character, change from a silenced, scared girl to a confident, outspoken young woman is incredible. Read this book!
