Ninth House is the first adult novel by Leigh Bardugo, known for creating the Grishaverse. The magic used in the book is similar to older, more traditional forms of magic and the story keeps readers hooked as it shifts back and forth from the past to the present, putting pieces of the puzzle together until catching up with itself among plenty of twists and turns. Highly recommended for fans of the Grishaverse, Harry Potter, and the Magicians.

I can honestly say I have not felt as though a book "understands" me in a while. Not to the degree The Starless Sea does anyway. The main character is a grad student whose thesis revolves around gaming, and his dream job is reading. No writing, no analysis, just reading. Personal bio: I'm a grad student who likes to game and would kill for that dream job. I loved the magical realism of The Night Circus, and Morgenstern's second novel continues that trend beautifully.
