Although this novel was Obreht's debut as an author, she masterfully mixes myth, reality, life, and death to create a truly spell-binding concoction. Some authors may choose to confine the reader as they deliver the entire story as they perceive it, but Obreht instead guides the reader and allows their own imagination to fill in the gaps.

So grab a blanket and some coffee, and be prepared to be transported into a Baltic winter and a tale that will leave you mystified and hungry for more.

This is one of the few novels where the translation does the book justice. The Three Body Problem not only spans across countries, but also civilizations and light years. Not your typical "aliens come to Earth" book, Cixin Liu's novel accurately depicts the nuances of human nature. Truly a haunting eye-opener of how naive we are on our small planet we call our world, when beyond us lies an entire universe we know alarmingly so little about.

I can't even begin to describe how impactful this book was on my teenage mind. My heart was practically wrenched out of my chest when I first delved into this series (and I'm still recovering). Although the dystopian novel is a chilling reminder of the evils in our own, it is also a beacon of hope for the good in humanity.

An unforgettable tale of courage, betrayal, pain, corruption, and love, Legend (and the rest of the series) definitely passes the test of re-reading.

P.S The fourth and final book of the Legend saga finally came out last month!

If you ever need something to reinvigorate your faith in the human spirit, this book is it.

While Louis Zamperini was often the source of trouble in his youth, he leaves America in awe after surviving 47 days adrift at sea and two years suffering in prisoner-of-war camps in Japan. Rarely are the people listed as dead and captured by the opponent in wars highlighted in history class. Yet, it is often through these less recognized perspectives where we seem to find the stories that portray the ugliest and best sides of humanity.
