INTRODUCTION
1.11 The textile industry, apart from being one of the
oldest. occupies a premier position on the
industrial map of India Its sales turnover
constitutes nearly 20% of the gross value of the
country's total industrial production in the 80s.
It occupies the second position coming next to
agriculture. Besides it also provides gainful
employment to over 20% of the industrial workers
and meets the essential clothing needs of the
people.
