William (Jim) Harman will be at the bookshop on Saturday, August 21st at 11:00 am to sign copies of his novella, An Affair in Berlin and his new novel, Come What May.

Harman and his late wife, Carollee, were married in Doylestown in 1968 at the home of Bill and Connie Eastburn. While living in Bucks County, the Harman's served on the board of the Bucks County SPCA and the Cancer Society's junior board. During that period Jim Harman held executive positions in Philadelphia with the General Building Contractors Association, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and the University of Pennsylvania. The couple moved to Washington, DC in the late 1970s and to Sarasota, FL in 1995.

Book Description: An Affair in Berlin follows the events of four American law students and their German friends during a long summer weekend in 1958 Cold War Berlin. "It's a layered story," Harman says, "a lighthearted romp, a love interest, and some sober passages about the cause and effect of two World Wars."

Come What May chronicles the relationships of a middle-aged widower during the months following his wife's death. "This is a more serious story," he says, "a poignant work that deals with mores and rectitude, yet has its lighter moments."

COME WHAT MAY by William Hamran

A poignant story about a middle-aged widower's relationship during the months following his beloved's death.

Rick Hauser's wife of many years has just died. He is devastated by his loss but knows life must go on. He encounters Catherine, a blithe spirited culinary arts teacher, Gwyneth, a cool and controlling socialite and Karin, a tender congenial widow. His travels take him from his home in Florida to North Carolina and Germany. By year-end, Rick has come to terms with his loss, manages conflicting relationships, frees himself from despondency and discovers how to live again. Come What May is an enduring universal story that deals with mores and rectitude, yet is filled with tenderness and hope.

AN AFFAIR IN BERLIN by William Harman

A "moveable feast" infused with bouts of historical reflections that should appeal especially to the young-at-heart and to those who lived through the perilous Cold War Era.

An Affair in Berlin is a multi-level story. One level follows the relationship between an American who seeks purpose in his life and a German woman who has experienced the horror of war and fears a commitment. Another level chronicles the escapades of a group of Americans and Germans as they move back and forth between the Soviet and Western occupation sectors. A third level encompasses European politics during the first half of the 20th century through intellectual discussions. All the pieces come together during a long summer weekend in 1958 Cold War Berlin.
