Dennis Scholl will be here for an educational program and book signing in support of his new children's local history book book, Tales of the Towpath: Adventures Along the Lehigh and Delaware Canals, which follows the travels and adventures of 10-year-old Finn Gorman, an Irish immigrant whose father operates a canal boat on Pennsylvania’s Lehigh and Delaware canals in the 1850s.

Published by the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (D&L), “Tales of the Towpath” is being read by fourth- and fifth-grade students in school districts throughout the D&L Corridor and introduces students to a period of history when anthracite coal was fueling unbridled industrial and economic growth in eastern Pennsylvania and surrounding regions.

The 24-chapter storybook is illustrated in color by Bucks County artist Dennis Gerhart and includes foldout maps of the Lehigh and Delaware canals and a timeline of Finn’s travels that lead readers to coal mines and lumber camps in the mountains of Carbon and Luzerne counties, iron furnaces along the Lehigh River, sprawling farms in Bucks County, and communities that were hubs of transportation and homes to people of diverse cultures.
