Chippy Chipmunk Event & Book Signing

First Friday, April 2nd 2010 @ 7:00 PM Girl Scouts: Registration for the event here

Meet Kathy Miller, author of the popular and cute local favorite, Chippy Chipmunk Parties in the Garden!  She'll be available to sign her book and host activities with attending kids, such as identifying chipmunk calls and constructing chipmunk burrows out of pipe!

The story of Chippy Chipmunk is based on delightful and humorous
photographs of a chipmunk's charming antics as he explores the author's
garden. Based in a natural setting, this story enlightens as well as
entertains. The photographs give the reader a close-up view of the Eastern
Chipmunk.  The harnessed energy in a still frame provides interesting
expressions not available to the naked eye.

Kathy Miller is a teacher, professional cellist and nature photographer.
She spent two years photographing and observing Chippy in her garden. The series of photographs inspired this book. Born and raised in Ottawa, Canada she now lives in
Pennsylvania with her husband and very spoiled cat.

ATTENTION GIRL SCOUTS

Dennis Scholl will be here for an educational program and book signing in support of his new children's local history book book, Tales of the Towpath: Adventures Along the Lehigh and Delaware Canals, which follows the travels and adventures of 10-year-old Finn Gorman, an Irish immigrant whose father operates a canal boat on Pennsylvania’s Lehigh and Delaware canals in the 1850s.

Published by the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (D&L), “Tales of the Towpath” is being read by fourth- and fifth-grade students in school districts throughout the D&L Corridor and introduces students to a period of history when anthracite coal was fueling unbridled industrial and economic growth in eastern Pennsylvania and surrounding regions.

The 24-chapter storybook is illustrated in color by Bucks County artist Dennis Gerhart and includes foldout maps of the Lehigh and Delaware canals and a timeline of Finn’s travels that lead readers to coal mines and lumber camps in the mountains of Carbon and Luzerne counties, iron furnaces along the Lehigh River, sprawling farms in Bucks County, and communities that were hubs of transportation and homes to people of diverse cultures.
